Classic Cinnamon Rolls (Using Cinnamon Powder)

Cinnamon rolls are one of the most popular baked treats in the USA, especially for breakfast and brunch. Soft dough filled with cinnamon sugar and topped with sweet icing.

Total Time: ~1 hour 40 minutes
Serves: 8–10 rolls

🧾 Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2¼ tsp)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • ½ tsp salt

For the Cinnamon Filling

  • 3 tbsp butter (softened)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1½ tbsp cinnamon powder

For the Icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

👩🍳 Instructions

Prepare the Dough
In a bowl mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add egg, melted butter, salt, and flour. Mix and knead until soft dough forms.

Let Dough Rise
Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.

Prepare Cinnamon Filling
Mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon powder.

Shape the Rolls
Roll the dough into a rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly. Roll tightly and cut into 8–10 pieces.

Bake
Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 18–20 minutes until golden.

Add Icing
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm cinnamon rolls.
